Appraising American Art of the 1930’s: Public Art and Beyond

This program will explore a great era in public art starting at Radio City in 1932, further developed in federal programs (1933-1943) and culminating in the New York Worlds Fair (1939-1941). The Program will begin outside of Radio City Music Hall, where Tom Folk, AAA, art historian and appraiser will discuss the roundels by Hildreth Meière and Oscar Bach. Please register here.

Art in Focus: Hildreth Meière, [Study of Song #1], 1932

Each event in our Art in Focus series offers an opportunity for an hour of close looking and informal discussion around a single work of art. This event is led by the Curator of Education and Academic Engagement, Michelle DiMarzo. On Thursday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. we'll be looking at the Study of Song #1 (1932), a work of art from the exhibition Hildreth Meière: The Art of Commerce (April 18 – September 21, 2019). Join us for an interdisciplinary panel discussion on Wednesday, September 18th at 6pm in the Dolan School of Business led by Curator of Education Michelle DiMarzo, Dr. Catherine C. Giapponi (Associate Professor of Management), and Dr. Elizabeth Hohl (Assistant Professor of the Practice of the History Department). A reception will precede the event at 5pm, generously supported by the Travelers Insurance Company. This lecture is presented in conjunction with Hildreth Meière: The Art of Commerce located in the museum's Bellarmine Hall Galleries which is on view through September 21, 2019. Walking Tour: Hildreth Meière’s Art Deco New York Tour

Join Art Deco Society of New York (ADSNY) for this special-access walking tour exploring an exceptional collection of 1920s and 30s decorative ornamentation by renowned craftsperson Hildreth Meière. Unlike any tour ADSNY has done before, the artist’s granddaughter Hildreth Meière Dunn and historian Kathleen Murphy Skolnik will get up-close-and-personal with several of the artist’s most recognizable and inspiring commissions.
