What do Byzantine mosaics, Egyptian wall paintings, and classical Greek vase paintings all have in common? They were the inspirations behind Hildreth Meière's incredible artistic career. Working with leading architects of her day, Meière designed approximately 100 commissions. The Newark Museum of Art has proudly displayed the Pillars of Hercules since 2013. This beautiful marble mosaic panel was originally commissioned in 1960 for the Prudential Plaza lobby.

Join us for two short documentaries and a panel discussion. The panel discussion will include the mosaic’s designer and restorer Anthony David Schiavo, mosaic’s restorer Steve Miotto, architect Richard Williams, and author and independent curator Catherine Coleman Brawer.
