During Open House New York 2025, nearly 2,000 visitors encountered Hildreth Meière’s work across four New York landmarks, discovering her art in the very spaces where it was designed to live.
Over the course of the weekend, visitors explored Meière commissions at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Temple Emanu-El, 32 Avenue of the Americas, and One Wall Street. Moving between sacred and commercial interiors, guests encountered the remarkable range of her work and the way her designs respond to scale, light, and purpose. Many paused beneath mosaics they had passed for years without realizing who created them.
At St. Bartholomew’s Church and Temple Emanu El, visitors experienced Meière’s mosaics within active sacred spaces, looking up into domes and arches where light, symbolism, and craftsmanship come together at an architectural scale that can only be understood in person.
The International Hildreth Meière Association (IHMA) was onsite throughout the weekend at 32 Avenue of the Americas, where families, architecture enthusiasts, and first time visitors engaged directly with Meière’s work in the lobby. Guests received newly designed IHMA postcards, each featuring an image from one of the sites on the front and a brief introduction to Hildreth Meière on the back, along with a QR code linking to IHMA’s new self guided digital tours at www.hildrethmeiere.org/tours.

At One Wall Street, the newly reopened “Red Room”, now part of Printemps New York, was a focal point of excitement. Designed by Meière in 1931 as a banking hall for the Irving Trust Company, the mosaic covered interior is both publicly accessible and protected as a New York City Interior Landmark. IHMA President, Anna Kupik, was onsite to lead small group tours and share the history behind the space. For many visitors, Open House New York marked their first opportunity to step inside the Red Room and experience its design, artistry, and craftsmanship up close.
